The Fighting in Europe - 1944
Days after the Allied landings in Normandy, masses of troops and supplies begin to move ashore and push inland.
The year 1944 was a time of immense destruction. The Western Allies battled for the Italian boot and the capture of Rome, and landed in Normandy, France in June as part of the largest amphibious landing operation in the history of the world. Colossal fighting took place in the East as the Germans were pushed back on all fronts, including the destruction of Army Group Center in the summer. By the end of the year, the Soviets and Western Allies were at Germany's traditional borders, and Hitler would throw his last reserves at the Western Allies in what would become the final German counteroffensive of the war.
